Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This panel has been quite recently restored and should be hung in its current condition. The reverse of the panel is unreinforced but linen has been glued to it over the years. There is a slight curve to the panel from left to right. The varnish is a little uneven and could be dressed up.
Restorations have been applied around the edges, in the dark shawl of the woman, in the lower sky immediately to the right of the figure's waist, and in some of the darker portions of the landscape addressing some thinness. The picture may well have been over cleaned slightly over the years and restoration has been added to address this. It is slightly discolored, which could be corrected, yet the picture could also be hung in its current state.
