Catalogue Note

a rare wall map of jerusalem and one of the most richly-detailed early depictions of jerusalem in cartographic form.

The topography shows ancient Jerusalem and the neighbouring countryside, including the most important locations immediately beyond the walls, such as Golgotha, the Mount of Olives, etc. The text surrounding the plan describes at length 270 structures and locations both within and without the walls of the city. The plan itself is illustrated with numerous Biblical vignettes from both the Old and New Testaments.

The three panels of descriptive text "Description exacte de la ville de Jerusalem"  are the most complete depiction and description of the major structures of the city at that time.
