Catalogue Note
This album records a pilgrimage from 3 February to 3 March 1938 to Makkah and Al-Madinah of a commission from the Egyptian University, including scholars such as Ahmad Amin and Abdul Wahhab Azzam. The photographs appear to have been taken by Muhammad Hafez al Salmawi of the Literature faculty and there is a signed photograph of him dedicated to Muhammad Fuad Omar, who was also a member of the commission; there is also a photograph of them together in pilgrim's robes. The other photographs include the commission in Suez, on board ship, at Jeddah, views in Makkah (including the al Haram mosque and Ka'ba), Al-Madinah, various group shots and street scenes, including images of King Adbul Aziz Ibn Saud's army.
