Catalogue Note
Pococke travelled in the eastern Mediterranean from 1737 to 1740. Volume 1 is devoted to Egypt; volume 2 to Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Cyprus, Crete, the Greek islands, Asia Minor, Thrace, Greece and other parts of Europe.
Volume 1 usually contains 75 plates, no.1-32 (there is no plate 33) and 34-76. However plate no.76 is not called for in the index and is not present in this copy (nor ever seems to have been). This is a handsome copy of the work.
