Catalogue Note
a rare privately printed account of the volcanic eruptions on santorini. "The unknown author, travelling in the yacht 'Marcia', left Patmos on the 4th June, 1867, on his way to Suda in Crete. On the 5th of June he anchored in the entrance to the harbour of Santorini, left the yacht, and rowed towards the burning islands in the center of the gulf, the Kammeni. From the top of Palea Kammeni he photographed the crater being formed on Nea Kammeni. The other two plates are photographs of drawings" (Blackmer).
