64 albumen prints (140 x 90mm. or 150 x 198mm.), mounted on 34 sheets of thick card (245 x 318mm.), two signed or titled in the negative, printed captions in German and numbered on the mount, a little light spotting to images, mounts with some loss, tears, chipping and creasing (not affecting images)

Catalogue Note

These photographs appear to come from Buchta's rare work Die Oberen Nil-Länder: Volkstypen und Landschaften (Berlin: J.F. Stiehm, 1881), which comprised a total of 160 photographs. Buchta (1845-1894) was an Austrian professional photographer who took these photographs during his travels in Africa between 1877 to 1879.
