Description

  • Contemporary manuscript of the "Sonata per Violoncello e pianoforte", in C major, signed and inscribed by the composer ("Dedicated to his friend William C. Hann, Alfredo Piatti")
notated in black ink on up to twelve staves per page, 2 volumes, parts for cello and piano, 21 & 49 pages folio (c.31 x 24cms), 12-stave paper, contemporary brown wrappers, some staining to title

Catalogue Note

An edition is recorded in TNG by Schott in 1894, but we have traced no copy in the British Library or any other institution.  From a famous family of string-players, William Charles Hann (1863-1925) was Piatti's pupil and a member of King Edward VII's private band.
