Catalogue Note

Ligeti drew this picture during the final day of the inaugural meeting of IRCAM in 1973 (chaired by Boulez), whilst seated next to the present owner.  On the final morning Ligeti requested to be allowed to leave so that he could see the French Alps, which were nearby, but Boulez refused him permission.  Whilst papers continued being given, Ligeti drew this picture of angry faces chattering in French.  For more about the circumstances of this meeting of IRCAM, please see J. Peyser, Boulez (1976), where the drawing is illustrated.
