Description

  • Directorium chori ad usum sacrosanctae Basilice Vaticanae, Rome: Robert Grandjon, 1582
first edition, [16], 573pp, 8vo (,c.16 x 10cms), printed in red and black throughout, mainly type-set music on 4-line staves, dedication to Gregory XIII, early manuscript side-notes and annotations throughout, on inserted leaves and on 8 leaves of manuscript bound in at the end, including additional music (from the 1589 edition), and an eighteenth-century manuscript in Italian ("Regola dell'Intonazione degli' Inni"),  contemporary calf, spine gilt in compartments [Censimento 16: CNCE 44375; Adams, L990; BUC, p.410], ownership name deleted on title, some corrections and erasures




Sixteenth century editions of Guidetti's manual on liturgical chant are rare at auction: we have traced no auction record for the first edition during the past thirty years.
