Description

  • Autograph manuscript of "Neuf pièces brèves" for piano, signed ("Georges Auric"), also including a tenth unpublished piece,
with an autograph dedication ("A Madame Marguerite Long"), for piano in black and blue inks,  on six two-stave systems per page, with pencil additions (including titles) inked over by Auric in blue, the pieces renumbered by him, the final piece redated, a two-page draft of another piece in 12/8 time crossed through, the Stichvorlage, marked up for the printer in pencil and ink (the plate number "M.E.6365"), with a note by Auric to the printer drawing his attention to the revised list of pieces on the cover, 23 pages, folio (c.35 x 27cms), 20-stave paper, February 1941

Catalogue Note

Auric composed a tenth piece in 12/8 time in A major. The numbering and titling of the nine remaining pieces came after the tenth was deleted.  Auric also changed the title on the front cover from "Dix Petites Pièces..." to "Neuf Pièces Brèves de moyenne difficulté pour le piano".
