Catalogue Note

On July 12 1906, Dreyfus was officially exonerated by a military commission from the trumped-up treason charges made by the French Army. He had received a pardon after a vigorous and courageous campaign, waged notably by Émile Zola (see lot 219 for Zola's J'accuse...!), who had died in 1902. On October 15 1906, Dreyfus was placed in command of another artillery unit at Saint-Denis.
