Catalogue Note

first edition. The opera was performed at Palazzo Colonna in Rome to celebrate the wedding of Charles II of Spain to Maria Anna, Duchess of Pfalz-Neuburg. In keeping with the Spanish nature of the occasion, this play was based on a Spanish drama. The fourteen set designs were by Girolamo Fontana and stage machinery was used in ten different ways, both of which are listed in the preliminaries.
