  • Deux Sonates pour le Piano Forte...[5e] Suite du Répertoire des Clavecinistes, [Piano Sonatas Op.31 nos 1 and 2], Zurich, J.G. Nägeli, [1803]
first edition, 51 pages, oblong 4to (c.23.3 x 33cms), engraved throughout, publisher's aquatint title-wrapper (by Lale after Lips), illustrated with angels, bound with works by J. Woelfl (Sonate), and Chr Weysse (Allegri di bravura), Nägeli ([12...7] Suite du Répertoire des Clavecinistes), 1803-1804, 3 volumes in one, quarter calf, owner's red-gilt label ("Sine Wandel") , [Kinsky p.79; Hoboken 170; Hirsch iv 1012], some foxing, binding worn but sound 



The autograph manuscript of Beethoven's Sonatas Op.31 is untraced since 1851.  This edition contains the sonatas Op.31 no.1 (in G) and no.2 (in D minor).  Nägeli commissioned three pieces in all, but did not publish the third sonata until 1804.
