Description

  • Autograph letter signed ("Serge Prokofieff"), in French, to the violinist Robert Soëtens, about the Second Violin Concerto, which Soëtens had premiered in 1935.
asking him to study the proof of the solo violin part, paying careful attention to the articulation marks, but to refrain from putting in too much fingering, and asking him to give a list of queries to Madame Prokofiev, presently in Paris, and the violin part itself to the publisher; he also discusses concert schedules in Russia, explaining that it will not be possible to arrange anything for Soëtens in May, but assuring him that the new director of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra will engage him for the start of the autumn season, 2 pages, 4to (27 x 21cms), with one mark in the text and a note at the foot of the second page in another hand (by Soëtens?), identifying the subject of the letter, Moscow, 10 April 1936

...Je vous prie donc de sacrifier une demi-journée à revoir très attentivement la partie du violon du concerto, surtout les archets, liaisons, points accents, etc, Mettez le moins possible de doigts, laissez seulement ceux qui sont des découvertes ou qui tiennent à changer la sonorité.  Si vous avez des doubtes, marquez les sur une feuille et donne là à Mme Prokofiev, actuellement à Paris...
