Description

  • Fine autograph letter signed ("Nicolò Paganini"), to the actress Madame Haizinger
confirming the great success of his debut at the King's Theatre, London in June 1831, about which she has doubtless heard a most flattering report in the English newspapers, and asking her to take his son Achille to a German play, so that he might keep up his knowledge of the language as well as be entertained by it, accompany him to London, and persuade his son to write to him ("...Avrà a questo'ora ritratto dai giornali inglesi il più che lusinghiero accoglimento che ho avuto net mio primo Concerto, dato nel teatro dell'Opera italiana...ciò varrà non solamente a divertirlo, ma anche ad esercitarlo nella lingua tedesca: sarebbe pecato ch'egli perdesca, per disuso, la conoscenza di una lingua sì pregevole..."), 1 page, 4to (c.23 x 18.7cms), carefully repaired on verso, with part of an autograph envelope (traces of seal), typed English translation, London, 8 June 1831

Catalogue Note

Paganini's English debut was on 3 June 1831, about which The Times wrote, "he is not only the finest player that ever has existed on that instrument, but forms a class by himself".  Achille was born illegitimately in 1825 and only recognized as Paganini's heir in 1837. Amalie Haizinger was an actress, married to the tenor Anton Haizinger, who sang at the Théâtre Italien, Paris.
