Catalogue Note
Established in 1840, the Baguès manufactory initially concentrated on commissions of bronze lamps for churches. The second generation of the family took over the business in 1880, and with the development of electricity, a much wider variety of models and lamps were produced ranging from simply adapting genuine antique lamps, to new iron cast, bronze and crystal chandeliers. At one stage over 8.000 models were recorded and clients included the Ritz Hotel in Paris and also the Chambre de la Reine in Versailles. The quality of the bronze casting, the fine detail of the chasing and the inventiveness of luxurious and lavish models, made Baguès the most prominent lighting manufacture at the end of the 19th century.
