  • clock: 81cm.high, 2ft.8in.: candleabra each: 90cm. high; 2ft.11½in.
6¼-inch enamel dial painted with swags of roses and signed F. Barbedienne A Paris, bell striking movement with Brocot escapement, on a neuge griotte marble base, flanked by a pair of conforming candleabra

Condition

Dial in good condition. Movement is complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from a clean. Case In very good condition. The bronzes cleaned and restored. With sun mask pendulum, winder and regulation key

Catalogue Note

Ferdinarnd Barbedienne (1810-1892)

Barbedienne set up in business in 1839 with a small foundry in Paris later becoming one of the most important bronziers and ébènistes of his time. In 1847 he established his main gallery at 30. Boulevard Poissonnière and had his workshops at 63 rue de Lancry. Barbedienne si best known for his castings, after his own designs as well as those of other leading artists. He produced various decorative objects including clocks, bibelots and furniture. At the height of his popularity he was employing around 300 workers. He assumed presidency of the the Réunion of bronze workers from 1865 to 1885.
