Condition

In good overall condition with some minor surface marks. Boulle has been well restored. An impressive pair.

Catalogue Note

Mathieu Befort Jeune (b. 1813) was the son of the founder of the Befort workshop, Jean-Baptiste. The latter was of Belgian origin and an ébéniste at the Garde -Meuble. Mathieu, was like his brother Bernard, an ébéniste marqueteur. He established his business in the rue Neuve-Saint-Gilles between 1844 and 1866 and he specialised pieces of furniture incorporating Boulle marquetry.
