Paul Sormani (fl. 1847-1934).
The Sormani firm was based at 7 Cimitière Saint-Nicholas from 1847-1854 and then from 114 rue du Temple. Paul Sormani was one of the most important Parisian cabinet-makers in the second half of the 19th century. The firm was established for eighty-seven years and after 1854 moved to 10 rue Charlot where it remained after Sorman's wife continued the businesss after his death. A contemporary source stated `toute sa production rélève ne qualité d'exécution de tout premier ordre...'
Their son Paul-Charles the took over the firm until 1934. Most signed pieces are from the later address. Paul Sormani made pieces in the Louis XV and XVI styles and exhibited at many of the Exhibitions including the 1849 Exposition Nationale in Paris where he was awarded a bronze medal and at the Exposition Universelle in 1855 , where he was awarded the médaille de première classe. He furthermore received a medal at the 1862 exhibition and a special mention at the one in 1867.
