Description

  • 79cm. 31¾in. high
9½-inch twelve-piece enamel cartouche dial, bell striking movement with Brocot escapement and concealed winding, the bronze signed and dated henry Dasson, 1881 

Condition

Dial is a little dirty, enamels in good condition, hands collet and pin lacking. Movement is complete but extremely dirty, extensive surface rusting to steelwork, it will require complete service and overhaul. Case in generally good condition, some rubbing to gilding, minor veneer losses to right side of plinth and rear of case. With pendulum and a winder.

This clock is based upon the celebrated 18th century model by André-Charles Boulle. Two 18th century examples of this model are known. One in the Wallace Collection, London. now has figures in gilt-bronze and is lacking the garland (see P. Hughes, op. cit., no.87 (F93) pp. 354-358. The other known example at Waddesdon Manor is illustrated by Bellaigue, op. cit., p. 59.
