Description

Of peacock design, each body set with a fancy-shaped cabochon sapphire weighing approximately 8.82 and 8.42 carats respectively, the feathers decorated with pear-shaped rose-cut diamonds edged by circular-cut sapphires and tsavorite garnets, highlighted by cabochon ruby-set eyes and oscillating rose-cut diamonds feet of similar settings, the diamonds altogether weighing approximately 6.35 carats, mounted in 18 karat white and blackened gold, clip and post fittings.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to GRS report, the two cabochon sapphires are natural, of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating. Please refer to the report for details. In our opinion, the sapphires appear lively and very strong blue colour, against a close-back setting. Very slightly included to naked eyes and nice glow. Under 10x loupe, one sapphire shows surface-reaching fingerprints and minor pits. Brilliant-cut sapphires and tsavorite garnets in the surmounts are of medium, blue and grass green colours, eye clean. The rose-cut diamonds are probably of J colour, VS to SI clarity. Condition: Interesting design with attractive colours, the pair of ear clips is in very good condition, almost as new.

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
