Description

  • Jadeite and icy jadeite beads approximately 13.65 to 14.05 and 3.60 to 4.00 mm respectively; cabochon approximately 10.97 x 10.98 x 5.00 mm.
Composed of thirty-three highly translucent jadeite beads of deep celadon colour, decorated with spherical motifs set with icy jadeite beads, tsavorite garnets and brilliant-cut diamonds, completed by a clasp set with a rounded jadeite cabochon decorated with tsavorite garnets and brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18 karat white and blackened gold, length approximately 570 mm.

Provenance

Accompanied by Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory Limited certificated numbered KJ40650(1-2), dated 8 January 2009, stating that two of the jadeite beads are natural, known in the trade as "A Jade".

Condition

Colour and Clarity: The strand is accompanied with an old certificate, which states that the jadeite beads are natural, "Type A" jadeite. The strand has been re-strung after certification. Please refer to the report for details. In our opinion, the jadeite beads and the round cabochon on clasp are matching and highly translucent, of soft apple green colour and some beads may have minor brighter green patches or veins. The icy jadeite beads are also highly translucent. All the beads have cloud inclusions upon illumination, but not seen when worn or under normal lighting. Diamonds together weighing approximately 0.80 carat, are probably of H to I colours, VS clarity. Tsavorite garnets are about medium, intense grass green colour, eye clean and brilliant. Condition: A nice interpretation of classic bead necklace, in mint condition.

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
