Description

Centring on an oval cabochon sapphire weighing 27.97 carats, within a surround of brilliant-cut diamonds, further embellished with scrolling ribbons pavé-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, accented with calibré-cut sapphire fringes, the sapphires and diamonds together weighing approximately 4.50 and 8.50 carats respectively, mounted in 18 karat white gold, pendant fitting.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to GRS report, the cabochon sapphire is natural, of Ceylon (Sri Lankan) origin, with no indications of heating. Please refer to the report for details. In our opinion, the cabochon sapphire is of medium light blue colour, moderately included. Upon 10x loupe, there are natural crystal and fingerprint inclusions and about three small surface openings. All these internal features are generally not noticeable when worn. Diamonds in the surround are probably of G to H colours, VS clarity. Other calibré-cut sapphires are of medium dark, strong blue colour, eye clean. Condition: Pendant loop to the reverse, and necklace fitting that the brooch can be worn as pendant or strung onto a necklace. Overall in very good condition, almost as new.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by GRS report numbered GRS2007-092397, dated 20 September 2007, stating that the 27.97 carat sapphire is natural, of Sri Lankan origin, with no indication of thermal treatment.
