Condition

The work is in good condition. The surface of the work is considerably dirty and has also accumulated on some recessed areas. The work would greatly benefit from cleaning by a conservator. There is a 1 ½ in. scratch on the woman's lower leg—but it is most likely inherent to the material used by the artist. There are two visible losses to the woman's head on the left side. Furthermore, the lower left corner is scuffed. There is also some scuffing to the lower right corner tip and the upper right corner. There is also minor scuffing along parts of the edges. There is fine craquelure on some areas of the paint layer.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
