Condition
This painting is in wonderful condition. The canvas is unlined and has never been removed from its original stretcher. There are a couple of small reinforcements in the lower left corner and another in the center left.
Under ultraviolet light a few retouches are visible, two in the lower left, a vertical line of retouching in the center left, and two areas in the upper right and lower right. For the most part however this is a beautifully preserved picture.
The paint layer has recently been cleaned, yet not over cleaned. There is a slightly raised diagonal line running across the upper portion of the picture, which corresponds to a scrapped area on the reverse of the canvas. There was perhaps some tape or something stuck to the reverse which caused the slight swelling. It would be easy to relax this further if required, but there are no associated paint losses. The picture could be hung as is.
