Condition

This painting has been lined. The paint layer is stable and has been cleaned and varnished. Retouches are visible under ultraviolet light in the white bonnet of the child and below and above his face and in the yellow shirt of the child. There are also a few spots around the mother's hands. Elsewhere, despite the fact that the varnish makes positive identification of retouches a little tricky, it seems that apart from a restoration in the upper left and a few retouches on the edge of the dark shape behind the mother on the left side, the picture is essentially un-retouched. The picture is in very healthy state and should be hung as is. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
