Condition

This painting is in beautiful condition. It seems to still be stretched on the original stretcher or at least it is un-lined and there are no reinforcements around the edges. The paint layer has probably never been cleaned yet it does not appear to be dirty or varnished. Although the paint layer is slightly uneven in its sheen here and there, there is no particular reason to varnish the picture. There are no retouches and although there are a few isolated light specks in the lower right corner, which may be small losses, the remainder of the picture is in beautiful condition and could be hung as is. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
