This painting on burlap has not been lined and seems to be very healthy on the reverse. The front of the picture is a little lumpy and wavy, as one would expect from a large piece of burlap like this. The paint layer is clean and shiny; whether this is the finish desired by the artist or a restorer's work is not clear. There may be a couple of small losses in the lower center, above the signature and to the upper right of the signature. There are some small red flecks to the paint layer in the lower center, which are most likely original. The canvas could be carefully tightened to relax some of the more visible waves to the canvas. If this were to be done, it would be worth considering that the canvas appears to be stretched on the wrong side of the stretcher and any slight puffiness visible around the edges could be corrected.
