Catalogue Note

This monumental work from Streichman's mature period of 1983, exemplifies Yigal Zalmona's closing lines from the article written for the 1987 Israel Museum solo exhibition of the artist: "Streichman is both a pioneer of Israel's abstract movement, and a keen, emotional observer of real phenomena. An instinctive colorist, he was among the creators of the muddy, even gloomy and faded palette favored by many Israeli artists and seen as highly indigenous. He is an exponent of universality in Israeli art, while acknowledging the importance of the local reality - from its color and light, to its wars and trials. It is this intense communion with the richness of art and life that renders this multi-dimensional artist one of the greatest to emerge in the country." (Yigal Zalmona, Yehezkel Streichman, exhibition catalogue, Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 1987, n.n.)
