Sculptures of such beautiful maidens, also termed surasundaris, were a popular motif adorning the walls of medieval Indian temples. Depicted as musicians, dancers or divine attendants, these celestial ladies were considered icons of fertility and bounty who enabled the fruition of the worshippers' desires.

Condition

Surface wear and abrasions throughout due to age.Obvious losses to the figure, clearly visible in illustration. Further chips and losses to the headdress, lips, nose and chin. Left shoulder from behind the left breast and beneath the earring re-attached.
