Catalogue Note

Executed in 1917, Brustbild einer Dame von vorne is one of the finest examples of Klimt's studies for his painting Freundinnen II (Weidinger no. 236) from 1916-17, which was destroyed in a fire in 1945. The present work depicts an elegant lady in a fashionable fur coat, her head contemplatively resting on her right hand, a wonderful representation of Viennese society of this epoch.
