Condition

Executed on cream wove paper not laid down. There are thin lines of support tape to the reverse of all four edges. There is surface dirt throughout (visible in the catalogue illustration) which can be cleaned professionally. There is a small, 0.5cm incision to the bottom right corner. Apart from some slight time staining visible to all four corners this work is in good condition. Colours: Overall accurate in the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note

The Italian government commissioned Salvador Dalí to draw the series of La Divine Comedie for Dante's anniversary. This work is a study for La Source, one of the illustrations for Le Purgatoire, volume II, song 21 (The Stratton Foundation (exhibition catalogue), Dalí, Milan, 1989, illustrated in colour p. 166).
