Description

  • TROIS FEMMES
  • signed Marie Laurencin and dated 1942 (upper right)
  • oil on canvas
  • 38 by 46cm., 14 7/8 by 18 1/8 in.

Provenance

Acquired by the present owner towards the end of the 1950s

Condition

The canvas is not lined. There are three intermittent spots of retouching between the heads of the central and right figures. There are two pinhead-sized spots of retouching in the central figure's hair, two further specks in her knee and two others in her skirt towards the lower centre. All retouching is visible under UV light and addresses old paint loss. Apart from a speck of retouching in the right figure's left arm and some minor spots of surface dirt throughout, this work is in good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate, although the pinks are more subtle in the original.
