Condition

The canvas is lined. There is a thick layer of varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate but there appear to be small areas of retouching to all four corners. Apart from two areas with scattered specks of fluorescence to the upper left and lower right of the house, probably retouching and visible under UV light, this work is in fairly good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note

This work was painted during the artist's stay at Galipan in Venezuela. The peak in the background is probably Mt. Avila, which Pissarro and fellow artist Fritz Melbye climbed in July 1854.
