Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and Exclusiveness with booklet, special glass capsule presentation box and outer packaging.

Audemars Piguet originally released the Royal Oak Concept CW1 watch in 2002 after many years of development with its subsidiary movement company Renaud & Papi. Made in only 150 total examples, this watch was available for three years from 2002 until 2004.

The movement features several interesting Audemars Piguet developments including the Dynamographe or torque indicator and the vertical in-line power reserve. The unusual function selector allows the crown to wind or set the movement, or simply rest in a neutral position.

The styling of the watch alludes to its roots in the Royal Oak line of watches, particularly with the octagonal bezel and faceted hooded lugs. This model, however, is made of alacrite, an incredibly hard and durable cobalt and chrome alloy more than twice the strength of steel. Even with the massive case, the watch is surprisingly light (roughly 150 grams) which is a credit to the qualities of this space-age metal.

It is no surprise that the Concept watch was well received by collectors as it does a wonderful job of technically expanding the Royal Oak line, while remaining true to the general aesthetic principles of the series.
