The case shows general wear with light surface scuffs. The gold stamp to the back of the lug is clean and crisp. The numbers between the lugs are 911072 and 6062 and the inside of the back is stamped 6062 with watchmaker scratches throughout. The strap of this watch contains endangered species; please refer to Important Notices for further information.

Catalogue Note

Ref. 6062 is one of only two models that Rolex produced with moon-phases, the other model being Ref. 8171. The two models differ in their case construction, with the present model having a screw-down case back, rather than the snap back of Ref. 8171. Furthermore, Ref. 6062 has a more pronounced tonneau rather than circular form.

It is interesting to note that the 'Super Oyster' crown on the present example was first introduced on Ref. 6062. Unlike earlier models with screw-down crowns, this design combined the ease of a pull-out crown with the water resistance associated with screw-down crowns.

For examples of Ref 6062, see Patrizzi, O., Rolex: Collecting Modern and Vintage Wristwatches, Vol. II, pp. 249-259.

For an example of Ref. 8171 in stainless steel, see lot 123 in this sale.
