The creative geniuses behind the UR-201, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, developed an innovative time-telling machine that evades horological definition. The satellite hour display reveals the creative mechanism, while the control board allows the wearer to manually correct the movement's precision.  The watch features a life-time (100-year-plus) indication, similar to a car's odometer, that tracks the number of years the movement has been in use.  An oil change indicator informs the owner that a service is due when the hand moves from the white to red zone.

Characteristic of Urwerk's watches, the revolving satellite hour display employs angular truncated pyramids set at 85 degrees, allowing the wearer to easily read the time from the front and side.  The patented Carousel, which serves as the rotating central hub, is meticulously finished with PE-CVD treatment called "Blacktop" which hardens, colours and lowers the coefficient of friction.  Finally, the edges of the satellites are bevelled using a diamanté process producing a chiseled mirror-finish.

The UR-201 also incorporates a spring-loaded telescopic minute hand that allows time to be amply displayed across a wide arc.  The hand lengthens to 4.8 mm and retracts to 1.8 mm as it moves through three minute indication vectors.  To acheive the necessary elasticity, the springs' diameters had to be thinned to an impressive 70 microns, compared with the 100-micron filaments previously developed for the Opus V.

The watch's curved sleek form gains its inspiration from a hammerhead shark, with its broad cephalofoil sapphire crystal which allows the wearer to view the time clearly from the side or above.
