Description

  • Tiffany Studios
  • Inkstand, Model No. 849
  • impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/6939
  • with clear glass inkwell
    favrile glass and patinated bronze

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The favrile blown-out glass appears to be original and undisturbed, and is in very good condition with no visible cracks. There is heavy surface soiling to each glass inclusion around the recessed perimeter edges. The patinated bronze surfaces with some small scattered ink stains (mainly reserved to the recessed shoulder), and with a few tiny ink droplets on the glass inclusions below. The patinated bronze surfaces showing gentle wear and rubbing. The interior inkwell and underside of the hinged top with heavier surface soiling and light oxidation. With a period clear glass inkwell liner with a few small edge chips and flecks. The colors of the patina and favrile glass are richer and more vibrant than in the catalogue illustration (which is slightly dark). A very attractive object displaying a particularly rich russet brown and green patina.
