Condition

4to (12 7/16 x 9 5/8 in.; 315 x 245 mm). 20 tipped-in colorplates, 40 photogravures, all with captioned tissue guards; light toning to margins, one guard partially detached. Original vellum, red underpainting, gauffered and gilt to a pattern resembling a period tin ceiling, title embossed on upper cover, edges and endpapers plain; extremities lightly rubbed revealing the underpainting. Overall very good condition.

Catalogue Note

This book is warmly inscribed by Louis Comfort Tiffany to artist William Meyle, who was employed as a decorator at Tiffany Studios from the 1880s until the time of his death in 1918.  Meyle represented Tiffany Studios at the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1893, and played an important role in the interior decoration of the H. O. Havemeyer Mansion.
