Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This picture is painted on a curved piece of wood. The wood has cracked approximately ¾ inch in from the left side and has been joined. The painting on either side of the crack is original. The paint layer is quite dirty and dull. The gilding does seem to be original; however, as with all of these pictures, the painted curved arches at the top are not original. Under ultra violet light there is some restoration running along the panel join on the left side and a couple of other isolated spots. The lower right and center around the feet of the figure may also have been retouched. This picture could be lightly and carefully cleaned and retouched more accurately.
