Description

  • Andrea de Leone
  • An Amoured Soldier with another in a Landscape
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas is relined. There are some minor abrasions along the outermost edges, most likely from rubbing by the frame. There are a few minor discolored retouches scattered here and there. Some thinness in some of the browns exists. There are two vertical lines of retouches to the right of the figure holding the staff, as well as on the far left side, possibly to repair a scratch in the paint surface and another small area of retouching in the lower sky, possibly to repair and old puncture in the canvas surface.

Catalogue Note

The subject of this enigmatic picture would appear to be literary, but as of yet has not been deciphered.  We are grateful to Nicola Spinosa who has confirmed the attribution to de Leone on the basis of photographs.
