Catalogue Note

The B'rith Israel Synagogue was the first Hasidic synagogue in the city, bolstered by a wave of Jewish immigrants in the 1880s; it was formally organized on February 13, 1887.  This crown was dedicated while the congregation was established at 209 Hickory; in 1912 they moved to a new 800-seat synagogue building at 177 Hickory.
