Description

Set in platinum-topped gold with hexagonal-cut amethysts measuring approximately 16.9 to 10.5 mm., old mine and rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 3.20 carats and with demantoid garnets, length 16 3/4 inches, unsigned, but possibly Fabergé, with a rubbed maker's mark AH, for Albert Holmström, assay mark for St. Petersburg, 1908-1917.

Condition

The mark "11" in the assay mark refers to the weight of the mounting, i.e. 11 zolotniks. Set with 11 hexagonal-cut amethysts, 22 round demantoid garnets, 168 rose-cut and 77 old European-cut diamonds. The amethysts are a rich medium purple color, with some minor color zoning, the demantoid garnets range in color from light yellow-green to medium deep yellowish green, many of them with abrasions to the facet junctions. The diamonds are of decorative quality. Evidence of solder repair on link adjacent to the center, but in good condition overall. The necklace must be worn with the figure-8 safety closure facing upward for the necklace to lay correctly.
