Description

  • Seaman Schepps
Comprising a necklace, two pairs of earrings and a ring, the necklace supporting three central fringes, composed of numerous collet-set oval and cushion-shaped opals and clusters of square-cut emeralds and French-cut sapphires, the remaining pieces set with fancy-shaped opals and calibré-cut emeralds and sapphires, the pendant earrings also set with oval cabochon emeralds, all mounted in gold, necklace length 17 inches, ring size 8¼, necklace unsigned, the balance of the pieces signed Seaman Schepps. With signed and fitted box for necklace.

Condition

Good condition. The color of the opals, sapphire and emeralds is accurately represented by the catalogue illustration though the opals' play-of-color (predominantly green, blue and violet) is more lively than indicated. The opals are predominantly opaque. About 7 of the opals in teh necklace are significantly crazed (seen in illustration). The ring's opal is also significantly crazed. The opals in the earclips remain in good condition with the exception of 2 of the smaller opals in the smaller pair of earclips which are moderately crazed. The emeralds and sapphires are eye-clean to lightly included. Both pairs of earlcips are signed with applied plaques. The ring is signed on the shank (the "Schepps" rubbed and no longer apparent). The necklace is not signed.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
