Probably ordered by Etienne François, duc de Choiseul (1719-1785) for the Chateau de Chanteloup.

Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, due de Penthièvre (1725-1793), Chateau de Chanteloup.

Condition

Marble top with restored corner, and surface scratches. With scattered age and surface cracks and minor losses to veneer, with some now restored. Signs of old worm to carcass, not extensive. Ormolu mounts with rubbing, traces of oxidation and surface dirt. In otherwise good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

The inventory drawn up in 1787 when Chanteloup belonged to the duc de Penthièvre lists: une commode de satiné de trois pieds et demie à cinq tiroirs garnie de rosaces, anneaux et sabots en bronze doré d'or molu à dessus de marble blanc veiné.
