Condition

With some small age and construction cracks, not extensive. Losses to gesso. Rubbing and losses to refreshed gilding. In otherwise good overall condition.

Two very similar sets of chairs were delivered by Boulard for the chateau de Compiègne: the first delivered in 1785 for the bibliothèque du roi, the second delivered in 1786 for the ancienne chambre a coucher du roi (see L. Condamy, Jean-Baptiste Boulard, Menuisier du Roi, Dijon, 2008, pp. 292 and 299.
