Condition

With very minor old worm damage, not extensive. Restorations to fretwork at joints. The paintings with some overpainting and losses. In otherwise very good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

The inventory drawn up in 1787 when Chanteloup belonged to the duc de Penthièvre lists:

Grand salon: un autre petit (paravent) en bois des indes à coulisses de quatre feuilles d'un coté en papier de la Chine et de l'autre en taffetas.

Antichambre des valets de chambre: un petit paravent en bois de rose de quatre feuilles avec charnières et anneaux de cuivre doré d'or molu à coulisse en papier et taffetas vert.

The Chanteloup brand dates from the period in which the duc de Penthièvre, grandson of Louis XIV, owned the house. He had acquired it, along with the contents from the duc de Choiseul's wife following his death in 1785.
