Catalogue Note
This pair can be attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire on the basis of a drawing in an 1817 Thomire album in the National Museum, Stockholm. A very similar candelabrum is illustrated H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 328, fig. 5.2.2.
A pair in the Grand Trianon, Versailles (illustrated D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Grand Trianon, Meubles et Objets d'art, Paris, 1975, p. 192) was delivered by Thomire on 22 April 1837. The winged figures, originally patinated, were later gilded.
