Condition
Very good condition overall with very minor chips to the edges, and a few scratches to the surface of the terra cotta. The toes of the left foot of the seated figure may have been slightly restored.
Signature partly indistinct. Inscription BEL[LI] partly missing.

Catalogue Note
Ce beau groupe en terre cuite est sans doute une première épreuve aboutie pour le grand marbre représentant La Guerre couronnant la Paix (coll. Vicomtesse de Terlinden, Bruxelles). Réalisé par de Cock en 1710 pour commémorer la fin de la guerre de Succession d'Espagne, ce marbre était destiné aux jardins du château de Tervueren ; il fut vendu avec l'ensemble des collections du château le 26 juin 1782. Elève de Pieter I Verbruggen (1615-1686), de Cock travailla à Breda pour le stadhouder des Pays-Bas, William III, avant d'ouvrir son propre atelier à Anvers en 1697-98.
