Condition
Overall good condition with minor wear and scratches to the patina, consistent with age and handling, as can be seen on the photograph.
Restored break to the right hindleg, visible on the photograph as a joint in the bronze.
The left hindleg and the right foreleg appear also to be slightly restored as there can be seen a fine hairline crack.
Very good cast with fine chiselling and a warm reddish brown patina with translucent laquer.

Catalogue Note
C'est en 1573 que Giambologna crée Le Taureau marchant sans doute à la demande de Côme I de Médici . Le bronze aujourd'hui au musée Bargello est consideré comme l'une des rares versions autographes de l'artiste. Le modèle sera ensuite repris par Antonio Susini et son neveu Gianfrancesco Susini (1575-1653). L'inventaire après décès de Salviati en 1609 mentionne un taureau d'Antonio Susini pour former pendant à un Cheval au pas. Parmi les bronzes de la Couronne ayant appartenu à Louis XIV, on trouve mention sous le n° 279 'Un taureau ayant la queue retroussée sur le dos; haut de neuf pouces, et long de dix pouces tout compris, estimé cent vingt livres' (coll. part.).
